We are at the forefront of several significant projects, including the Fayetteville Shale and Marcellus Shale plays. In fact, Southwestern Energy was the first to discover the economic viability of the Fayetteville Shale and is the largest producer of its natural gas. In a few short years, we achieved two significant milestones – total gross operated production of 2 Bcf per day and surpassed 2 Tcf cumulative gross operated production. In the Marcellus, our gross operated production reached 300 MMcf at year-end 2012. Our work is also well known in the Arkoma Basin in Western Arkansas, East Texas, and we have exploratory efforts in the Brown Dense, located near the Arkansas-Louisiana border, Colorado’s Denver-Julesburg Basin, Utah and New Brunswick, Canada.

Candidate will:
  • Lead various groups within the accounting organization, including Joint Interest Billing (both operated and non-operated), Accounts Receivable and Inventory
  • Interface with internal and external clients in testing of new systems and business processes
  • Provide work direction, training and mentoring to less experienced accountants for projects and daily tasks
  • Assist in defining and implementing "Best Practices" -- updating of internal control documents, assessment and review related to department activities
  • Participate in accounting and audit projects as required, including coordinating the full cost ceiling test
  • Work closely with various internal groups to address questions, perform research and provide information
This position reports to the Director, Finance and Accounting.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with others inside and outside of accounting at all levels of the organization to facilitate efficient operation of the business
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise the administrative and accounting activities of the department
  • Recommend and implement department and personnel changes as approved by the director, provide staff training and evaluate staff performance
  • Development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures
  • Frequent interaction with the company leadership team
  • Applies a broad understanding of objectives and components of the overall control environment, organization, and supervisory controls
  • Validates and assesses effectiveness of internal controls
  • Identifies and communicates to management suggestions to improve internal controls and accounting procedures
  • A focus on process improvement

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervising the work of accounting staff to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures while addressing errors or problems
  • Conducts thorough and timely employee performance appraisals as well as facilitating employee development and growth
  • Supervising and mentoring a large, diverse team

Minimum Requirements:
  • 10 years accounting experience in a progressive organization, 4 of which must be supervisory
  • Logical progressive advancement in a similar organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience leading multiple large groups (
>15 people) with different objectives Ability to apply conceptual and analytical skills to solve problems Experience performing accounting research and writing technical accounting memos Deep understanding of various financial statement accounts Oil and gas industry experience preferred Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required MBA/Masters degree in Accountancy preferred Professional accounting designation is preferred
