The Manager - Accounting is an important member of the Accounting and Finance team and is responsible and accountable for certain assigned accounting support functions for Watco Companies, L.L.C.: Transportation Accounting, Transload Accounting, Mechanical Accounting and accounting for other potential operating units of Watco Companies, its parent company, subsidiaries or any related sister companies. This individual will ensure the supporting processes for the Accounting of these functional areas is designed, documented, and operating efficiently and effectively to meet internal and external customer needs.
The Manager - Accounting is successful if they meet or exceed expectations in these general areas:

Developing the individuals and/or teams underneath them to properly execute the functions and processes for which they are responsible
Reviewing and monitoring financial and transactional details to ensure their areas of responsibility are in control
Analysis of data and trends related to their areas of responsibility to provide critical financial and operating information and guidance to Accounting and Finance customers
Active involvement in continuous process improvement efforts (self, functional and cross-functional)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned, as requested or required.
Managing the assigned teams of the their assigned segment. This includes setting goals and performance expectations, training, measuring and monitoring performance, rewarding and maintaining good performance, improving standard and substandard performance.
Ensuring the functions and processes under their management are documented, operating efficiently and effectively and meeting the various needs of their customers.
Meeting with internal and external customers to review financials, highlight issues and trends, solve problems and improve processes.
Reviewing and approving general ledger journal entries to ensure a complete and accurate general ledger.
Reviewing internal financial statements during and outside of the accounting close process
Performing control functions including but not limited to: account reconciliations, trend and variance analysis, reviewing transactions against established policies and procedures
Direct point of contact for information requests, questions, or comments concerning assigned responsibilities
Proactively communicating with customers to anticipate and solve problems
Involvement in the budgeting and forecasting process as required
4 year college degree in accounting highly desired along with five to ten years of relevant experience
Certificates and Licenses:
CPA highly desired
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of GAAP, including the ability to perform technical research
Strong working knowledge of accounting in similar or complementary industries
Working knowledge of SAP desired
High level of initiative and self-motivation, a must
High level of problem solving skills, a must
Process documentation and process management skills
Ability to work independently, as part of a cross-functional team, and as a manager
Proven ability to hire, manage, develop, grow, and motivate a high performing team

Must be able to stand and walk to file cabinets, office equipment and supplies, and other offices 20% of time.
Must be able to sit at desk to perform duties 80% of time.
Must be able to use hands to finger and feel keys on keyboards and calculators 60% of time.
Must be able to reach with hands and arms to file, grasp, and maneuver paperwork; and/or reach and operate personal computer and office equipment 100% of time.
Must be able to stoop or kneel to reach file drawers, cabinets 5% of time.
Must have close vision and ability to adjust focus to operate personal computer, calculate, compile and enter information from timesheets and timecards.
Must be able to talk and hear to communicate with co-workers, workers in other locations, business associates, and management 100% of time.
The employee in this job is required to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
