Group Accounting Specialist I
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, processes group invoices or collects and/or reconciles group account premiums
Retrieves group account invoices from billing email in-box; verifies through system database that invoices are accurate; updates system database as needed
Transfers all completed invoices to archive folders; delivers accurate invoices to group accounts via email or traditional mail
Conducts limited research for inaccurate invoices including verifying pay-to-date accuracy and/or that account is not in suspense; makes corrections as needed
Contacts Account Manager regarding undeliverable invoices; forwards unresolved invoices to higher level Specialist for further research
Maintains integrity of invoicing Excel macros and notifies the Information Technology Department of issues that my hinder production or of any large issues that would stop or slow invoice production
Processes premiums received for qualified group or individual remittances, ensures account information is correct in system database, and determines disposition of funds; suspends
Balances batches and ensures that premiums are correctly posted; assists with the coordination of activities necessary to maintain balanced accounts; ensures prompt and accurate account calculations and adjustments
Communicates with agents and/or accounts and prepares form letters as required
Performs other duties as required
Education & Experience
High School graduate or equivalent and one year of work-related experience
Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite software
Job Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; this includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures an systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
Skill in giving full attention to what other people are saying; taking time to understand the points being made; asking questions as appropriate
Skill in understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision-making
Skill in using mathematics to solve problems
Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures when learning new policies, procedures, concepts or products
Skill in managing one’s own time and the time of others and actively looking for ways to help people
