Due to anticipated growth and ongoing needs, we are searching for an Accounting Specialist to join our Chicago, IL team.

Position Description:
The Accounting Specialist will have responsibility for day-to-day bookkeeping transactions/processing to ensure the timely and accurate input of necessary information.

Essential Functions:
  • Accurate and timely data entry of all account receivable transactions, including: move-ins/outs, rent receipts, security deposit checks, verify and mail interest checks, subsidy receipts, input of approved rent increases, input, rent changes, input tenant charges
  • Prepare bank deposits as appropriate and necessary. Keep cash monitor up-to-date
  • Preparation and mailing of monthly HUD Tracs and voucher
  • Code and enter all invoices on MRI at site. Copy and mail to TCB central office in a timely manner
  • Weekly run open items report so invoices can be selected for payment
  • Maintain vendor files, certificates of insurance
  • Review General Ledger each month for necessary corrections
  • Collect time sheets from each department weekly. Time must be logged on call-in sheet and faxed to Boston central office. Originals are copied; send original to central office and copy is filed
  • Maintain personnel files including vacation time and sick time
  • Set up new employee start-up packages and files
  • Maintain payroll supplies: forms
  • Maintain petty cash fund for property
  • Process Reserve for Replacement Package to HUD/MHFA for reimbursement
  • Process Bad Debt write-off
  • Active role in computer maintenance: backup
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellence in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Knowledge of MRI and Adobe Acrobat Standard a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to respond and adapt to changing technology is required
  • Relate professionally with vendors, residents, and co-workers
  • Flexible to change work plans
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance
