The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership in the daily operations of the accounting department. This position is a critical and integrated member of the Finance team. The successful candidate will have previous related accounting experience in technical accounting and transaction processing, with specialization in specific accounting disciplines as assigned. This position ensures the integrity of the accounting functions and the reporting of the company’s financial results. This position is responsible for performing both supervisory and hands-on day to day activities.

The position requires an individual who is ambitious, self-directed, and capable of working autonomously or with the broader leadership team to achieve the business and financial goals of the company. The role has a mix of recurring responsibilities and initiative-based work that provides a high degree of exposure to department and company leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise various department accounting activities, including month-end close, invoicing, accounts payable, and other recurring activities (scope as assigned)
  • Maintain the financial records of the Company in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including compliance with applicable Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Adhere to appropriate policies, systems and procedures for the Corporate Accounting department to ensure the Company’s financial performance and results are reported accurately, timely and efficiently
  • Enforce monthly/quarterly close accountabilities and procedures, and maintain checklists to ensure departmental compliance
  • Coordinate with parent company and external auditors as necessary
  • Assist in defining and enforcing key controls over financial and company operations, including appropriate segregations of duties
  • Participate in the recurring financial reporting process as required
  • Support the development of the annual budget and operating plan
  • Liaison with IT and other departments on various projects, initiatives and process improvements impacting the Corporate Accounting function, as needed and assigned
  • Participate in migration of western region accounting processes as required
  • Anticipate needs across the company and manage department resources to provide timely and reliable service to internal customers; prioritize and communicate when workload or requests for support exceed departmental capacity
  • Manage in a no surprises manner; proactively communicate financial issues to company and finance leaders
  • Safeguard the company’s assets, be alert for situations that could invite fraud
  • Participate in special projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must have ability to anticipate busy schedules and communicate with other members of the organization/department to complete assignments on time
  • Must demonstrate integrity in research/analysis and commitment to accuracy
  • Must have high sense of urgency
  • Must possess strong computer skills, including use of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have strong ability to work as a team member
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES – Accounting Staff as assigned

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance or Accounting preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant and strong knowledge of US GAAP preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting software applications. Day to day experience with windows-based, packaged accounting software is required.
