Essential Job Functions:
- The Travel Accountant Tech II is selected by and reports to the Manager of Travel and Accounts Payable Support through the Travel Team Lead. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reviews Travel Request forms and processes Travel vouchers. Responsible for the researching, preparing and issuing Travel Advances. Communicates with both internal and external travelers to verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems or complaints. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
(70%) Reviews, analyzes, and processes travel vouchers to satisfy expenditure obligations for DSHS. Determines accuracy of travel requests and appropriate coding for data entry. Performs data entry of the voucher information into the electronic accounting system and access database. Tracks Central Billed invoices and paper vouchers to ensure all payments are made in compliance with state prompt pay guidelines.
(30%) Respond to customer service inquiries, both verbally and in writing, concerning payment status.
An In Basket test will be given during the interview.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures as they apply to the processing of accounts payable and travel documents.
Ability to use a personal computer to research, track and enter accounting information.
Ability to perform financial analysis; to interpret statutes; and to analyze, evaluate and summarize financial records for accuracy and conformity to procedures, policies and rules.
Ability to prepare clear and concise correspondence regarding accounting transactions.

Ability to work overtime as required to meet agency deadlines and goals.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university with major course work in accounting preferred. Related work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
Experience in accounting processes or bookkeeping.
Experience with personal computers to include a working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
