The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as an Accounts Payable Manager. This position offers a unique blend of government and private sector accounting in a fast-paced, dynamic organization. The selected incumbent must be detail oriented with the desire to work as part of the Finance Management Team to identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of work processes and the effectiveness of internal controls.

This position is responsible for overseeing over $400 million a year of vendor payments and ensuring that the agency is in compliance with the Commonwealth's Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) manual for every disbursement. The Accounts Payable Manager has many accounting related responsibilities: journal entries, monthly expense accruals, account reconciliations, review of vendor w9's, and file transfers & downloads from external systems. General Ledger accounts are reconciled monthly and the Agency's General Ledger is balanced monthly to the Commonwealth's Accounting and Reporting System (CARS). This position is also responsible for issuing 1099s annually and responsible for managing the Accounts Payable Department.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelors Degree in Business, extensive knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and state accounting practices, and with system interfaces is highly preferred. Considerable experience in a professional accounting environment is needed as well as proficiency in accrual based accounting and the use of financial and various other system applications. The proven ability to analyze and interpret financial data, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to establish effective working relationships with all levels of staff is paramount.
