Under the direct supervision of the Youth and Family Recreation Supervisor, leadership of the Adaptive Program Coordinator or Lead, provide appropriate adaptive programming to ensure a successful recreation experience for participants with disabilities.
Examples of Duties:
Working one Friday night per month in a dance setting.
Provide appropriate adaptive programming.
Encourage social interactions between and among all participants.
Complete duties such as set-up, take down, tickets and cashiering, assisting DJ as necessary.
Complete any necessary paperwork required for position.
Problem solve by using other staff, parents, supervisors, the media, and community agencies as resources.
Work as a team member to ensure that the programs are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
Any other duties assigned by the Youth and Family Recreation Supervisor or Adaptive Program Coordinator or Lead.
High school diploma. Some post-secondary course work in human services preferred (therapeutic recreation, psychology, social work, etc.). High school students with significant experience may be eligible.
1+ year(s) of experience with participants with a disability.
A belief that individuals with disabilities should be able to participant fully in community recreation.
A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities so they can participate fully in City sponsored Parks and Recreation programs.
Patience, Reliability, ability to work independently and have personal transportation.
