Fire Science Adjunct Instructor

Classification: Part-Time, on a semester basis

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Compensation: Bachelor's degree rate = $432 per contact hour. Master's degree rate = $468 per contact hour.

JOB SUMMARY: Design and deliver instruction to students within the Fire Science program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching responsibilities include teaching courses, posting and maintaining scheduled office hours, advising students, and developing curriculum.Work with Fire and Emergency Service Training Coordinator to instruct the Fire Science curriculum.

Assist in organizing and tracking emergency services supplies for the Fire Science programs.

Coordinate off -site student experiences.

Assists in curriculum development and evaluation to improve the Fire Science program.

Assist in the development of strategic goals for the Fire & Emergency Services Training.

Conceptualize emergency responder needs and trends and incorporate into training curriculum.

Ability to motivate and lead individuals.

Maintains good relationships with students, staff, and community members.

Prepare and deliver academic instruction, including developing syllabi, developing content and designing assessments.

Maintain and submit necessary class records, including early alert and final grade reports and attendance verification for financial aid compliance.

Participate in student grade appeal procedures.

Observe college calendar.

Participate in assessment of student learning according to assessment plan.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer.

Required Skills

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree required. Five years of recent experience in the fire science field. One year experience learning, developing, and/or teaching at the community college level. Strong vocational/technical experience coordinating fire or related programs for a technical center preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Fire Service Instructor I certification and Fire fighter I and II certification.

Holds academic and or professional credentials appropriate to subject matter.

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

All academic degrees must be from a regionally accredited college or university.

Ability to maintain good relationships with students, staff, and community members.
