Braille Institute of America, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to eliminate blindness and severe sight loss as a barrier to the fulfillment of life. Through educational training, programs and services, Braille Institute helps people regain and maintain their independence through five regional centers (Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Orange County, Rancho Mirage, and San Diego) and through more than 135 community outreach programs

We currently are seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant (33.75 hours per week) for our San Diego Regional Center. This position will be responsible for:
  • Serving as the Regional Director's key administrative support person;
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating of meeting and events, preparation of daily working documents, plans and center communication;
  • Develop and compose internal and external Center related newsletters and communications;
  • Composing business correspondence, including internal and external emails, letters, faxes, memos and other communications on behalf of the Regional Director and Regional Center;
  • Act as the Human Resources liaison between the Regional Center and the Los Angeles Administration/Human Resources department;
  • Interact with donors-receive and process in-kind and monetary donations;
  • Provide back-up to the receptionist during breaks, vacations and absences;
  • Responsible for multiple high tasks and meeting multiple concurrent/conflicting deadlines and assuring all tasks and deadlines are completed;
  • Receive and process regional center invoices for payment by Accounting.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred;
  • Excellent computer skills and extensive experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Internet;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a wide variety of people;
  • Must be excellent at balancing multiple high-priority tasks and deadlines;
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills and experience in similar on-profit or business;
  • Must be willing to assist staff, volunteers, donors and students with a wide variety of needs;
  • Valid California drivers license.
