The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Administrative Assistant to join one of HHMI’s laboratories located at the University of Michigan. In this position, you can expect to provide an executive level of administrative support to Dr. James Bardwell and his research staff who work on the relationship between protein misfolding and disease using model organisms. For more information about the lab see: http://www.mcdb.lsa.umich.edu/labs/bardwell/ The position requires that you perform administrative work in the areas of correspondence, travel, and budget monitoring and control, and assist with grant submissions and scientific manuscripts. You must also have the ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
Handles daily duties and activities of the scientist’s office, including phone calls, mail distribution, maintaining calendar, scheduling appointments, and coordinating meetings.
Makes travel arrangements and processes reimbursement requests.
Maintains and organizes office records and correspondence.
Performs other miscellaneous administrative and general office management duties.
Bachelors degree, preferably in a field of science.
At least three years of increasingly responsible experience in office management.
Experience providing senior level administrative support in an academic or research environment.
Knowledge of scientific terminology and familiarity with research laboratory operations are essential.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Macintosh computers.
Familiarity with standard office equipment.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
