This position is located in the Los Angeles Field Office, Bureau of Diplomatic Security. The incumbent serves as an Administrative Assistant providing a wide range of administrative support and assistance to an office staff. The duties and responsibilities of the incumbent focus on providing extensive administrative support in the workload control and involve a wide range of staff assignments and/or issues.
This position is also being announced through Merit Promotion procedures under Announcement # DS-2013-0152. Candidates who wish to be considered under both Public (US Citizens)and Merit Promotion procedures must apply to both announcements.
Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

- Advises the staff of important office matters, calling attention to significant items in reports, files and correspondence;
- Performs necessary research for materials relevant to administrative matters to assure priorities and obligations are met;
- Assists office personnel on procedural matters such as the correct procedures to follow in preparing correspondence, travel orders, travel vouchers, and periodic reports;
- Assembles background material for agenda items and informs participants of topics to be discussed;
- Performs office automation duties using software applications such as electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, spreadsheet, database, and/or graphics.

Applicants applying for the GS-06 grade level must have at least 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service which provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience performing duties exercising administrative regulations, policies and practices sufficient to provide staff support and assistance to assigned office personnel;
- Experience performing office automation duties using software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel databases and electronic mail;
- Experience gathering, consolidating, extracting, assembling, and summarizing program related data and/or information;
- Experience preparing travel vouchers for a large complex office utilizing automated travel system.
Must be able to type a minimum of 40 wpm with no more than 3 errors.
Note: Individuals may be required to take a typing exam.
As a general rule, education is not creditable at this level for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
