Serve as the central point of contact for the Department of Air Transportation Services. Provides exceptional administrative planning, management, coordination and support to the Department of Air Transportation Services. Uses excellent judgment and decision-making skills to ensure the integrity and professionalism of the office. Manages aircraft scheduling, dispatching, and administrative operations of the department as well as the Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport. Works independently, exercising excellent judgment and customer care, to facilitate the daily operations of the department and airport. Works with other university departments to ensure a variety of business transactions are completed effectively and timely. Maintains a professional and service-oriented demeanor in all interactions with a diverse clientele of the Virginia Tech Airport. The position supervisors a part-time position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable experience managing the operations of a complex office environment and working with senior level management - Experience managing multiple priorities and working independently in a fast-paced environment - Experience maintaining schedules and calendars for executive(s) and managing administrative processes - Strong experience gathering and entering data/information, developing documents, and generating reports - Experience using current office software applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint - Demonstrated professionalism in working with confidential and sensitive matters with the utmost discretion and tact - Ability to prepare error-free documentation and correspondence in a professional and timely manner - Strong proofreading skills - Ability to interpret and apply university policies and procedures - Ability to take initiative in fulfilling responsibilities and anticipating the needs of staff and customers - Ability to interact effectively and comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds - Exceptional interpersonal skills and judgment are essential - Strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent level training or experience in business, communications, public administration or related area - Experience working with aircraft scheduling and dispatch, including Flight Operations System - Working knowledge of air traffic communications and air traffic procedures - Working knowledge of university organizational structure, policies and procedures - Experience working in higher education providing administrative support at the manager level.
