Under general supervision, the undergraduate or graduate student provides short-term staff support to sall City departments, divisions, functions or special projects; assists in performing specific and miscellaneous duties as assigned and does related work as required. The position will expose students to career options within a Municipal Government environment.

Major Duties:
Assists in analyzing data
Assists in collecting data for department studies,functions, and/or projects.
Assists in budget preparation and maintenance.
Assists in administrative and clerical support activities as needed.
Assists in preparation of Commission meetings and packets.
Attends Commission meetings, City Council sessions.
May assist in preparation of agenda statements, administrative regulations, procedural manuals, revision of rules and regulations, resolutions, press releases, etc. Interacts with the public in person or via telephone.
Prepares reports and summaries.
Uses a computer and maintains appropriate records and files.
Performs basic research May participate in a "Rotational Internship" assisting various departments or in a "Department - Assigned Internship".
Performs related duties as required

Required Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment at an accredited College or University and in good standing is required for an Undergraduate Student Intern. · Current enrollment in a Graduate Program at an accredited University and in good standing is required for a Graduate Student Intern. · Coursework in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Industrial Psychology or related field is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge: • Must have general knowledge of research methods and techniques. • Must have a strong desire to work in a public service oriented environment. Skills: • Must have good organizational skills. Ability to: • prepare and present a variety of concise reports. • independently understand facts and draw sound conclusions. • analyze and problem solve. • work effectively and communicate clearly both orally and in writing. • use computers and learn computer programs. • follow directions and complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
