Employee performs administrative and complex clerical work for the Benefits and Payroll offices. Work involves considerable internal and external contacts, difficult non-routine tasks, access to confidential information, and administration of department policies and procedures. Handling verbal and written communications for a broad range of questions, issues and requests in assigned area of responsibility; preparing customized memos and related communications for non- routine issues; identifying needs of various parties to determine appropriate response. Planning and coordinating simple projects and events. Judgment and initiative are frequently exercised and work is typically performed under general rather than specific instruction. Ability to work as part of a team is essential, as are providing exemplary customer service, using English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling effectively, maintaining confidentiality and the ability to manage multiple tasks, and to prioritize.

Qualifications: Required: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND sufficient experience, including two years administrative support experience; excellent computer skills; strong attention to detail; excellent communication and organization skills. Preferred: Relevant work experience in an academic office environment, preferably one with a strong customer service focus (as Specialist will cover the front desk reception area part-time); knowledge of Mainestreet.
