Provide administrative support for the vice president, state government relations and other members of the state government relations team. Plan the logistical elements of the major state government relations department meetings, the Association Council Retreat and four Regional Legislative Planning Meetings. Act as State Government Relations Department liaison to state associations. To manage grassroots activities as specified by the Government Relations Department’s Vice Presidents.
  • Primary Purpose:

    • Provide administrative support for the vice president, state government relations and other members of the state government relations team.

    • Plan the logistical elements of the major state government relations department meetings, the Association Council Retreat and four Regional Legislative Planning Meetings.

    • Act as State Government Relations Department liaison to state associations.

    • To manage grassroots activities as specified by the Government Relations Department’s Vice Presidents.
  • Essential Job Functions:

    • Provide administrative and logistical support as requested by the State Government Relations Staff. Maintain the State Government Relations portion of the FMI website.

    • Plan the logistical elements of state government relations department meetings including the Association Council Retreat and Regional Legislative Planning Meetings.

    • Coordinate state association activities and functions as various FMI events.

    • Administer and assist in membership recruitment for the Advocacy Database.

    • Assist members and state associations in using the database, obtaining reports, and problem solving.

    • Train and assist FMI staff in accessing and using the database. Manage tracking program of congressional voting records on key industry issues.

    • Manage and maintain the Advocacy Database portion of the FMI webpage.

    • Write and edit articles for State Government Relations mailings. Communicate effectively with members and state associations.
  • Other Job Functions: Other duties and projects as assigned or directed.
  • Physical Requirements: Normal office environment requiring use of typical business equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, fax, copier, security system). Ability to travel to conventions and conferences to perform on-site administrative and coordination activities.
  • Education, Skills and Experience:

    • College degree preferred.

    • Previous exposure to politics and governmental process is preferred.

    • Computer literacy with understanding of and ability to use Microsoft Office products, CMS Programs and online advocacy tools.

    • Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills. Customer service and team orientation.

    • Interest in politics.

    • Strong oral communication skills. Strong writing and editing skills. Ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks with attention to detail.

    • Excellent project management skills with strict attention to detail. Self-directed with excellent time and project management skills with an ability to organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple task with strict attention to detail and with minimal supervision.
