RECRUITMENT: The State Highway Administration (SHA) is recruiting for the Chief of the Traffic Development and Support Division (Administrator VII) in the Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS). This recruitment is open to anyone who meets the preferred qualifications listed below. This position is Executive Service (the incumbent serves at the will of the appointing authority).

SALARY RANGE: Grade 22 ($61,496 - $98,745) CLOSING DATE: February 20, 2013

NATURE OF WORK: The Chief of the Traffic Development and Support Division is responsible for the management and supervision of seven traffic engineering teams that handle duties and programs related to traffic engineering analysis, operations and safety programs, including assigning, reviewing and approving technical responses and decisions related to automated speed enforcement, crash data analysis, highway-rail crossings, and roundabouts. The position is also a member of the Office of Traffic and Safety's Management Team tasked to insure the overall business plan goals and operations of the office are effectively implemented and carried through to provide continuous process improvement.

Any combination of full-time civil engineering experience and higher education totaling ten (10) years (for example, a bachelor's degree in civil engineering plus six years civil engineering experience). Two (2) years of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. Six (6) years of experience must include the management of traffic engineering analysis operations and/or safety programs.

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of the MUTCD and traffic engineering analysis software.

The employee is expected to be available to provide detailed information regarding any and all programs managed by the Division, in person or via cell phone, on a 24/7 basis.
