The primary function of the Undergraduate Admissions office is to identify, attract and enroll first year and transfer students with outstanding academic ability and potential. The department’s efforts are commensurate with NC State University’s annual and long-term enrollment goals for the University, including diversity with regard to in-state and out of state status, international status, ethnicity and gender.

Essential Job Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Admissions office in identifying, recruiting and enrolling a new academically strong and diverse student class each academic year. The position holder will articulate admissions policies and procedures to students, parents and counselors. Additionally, this person will review academic credentials of freshman applicants to make appropriate decisions regarding admissibility to the University.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Ability to exercise judgment and work independently.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as a team member.

Strong organization and time management skills to ensure scheduled deadlines.

Computer proficiency – must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized management information systems (databases).

Demonstrated ability to make accurate and consistent interpretations of a broad variety of academic and/or administrative policies and procedures

Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel or organizational matters

Work requires in-depth analysis and counseling skills along with independent judgment and discretion to render appropriate admissions decisions in an increasingly competitive market.

In some cases, individuals may possess an unusual aptitude for this level responsibility and may lack one or more of the above requirements. Nonetheless, each of the above requirements is expected of the overwhelming majority of successful candidates.

Flexibility to travel for extended periods

Ability to lift up to 60lbs occasionally

Other Work/Responsibilities

Represent NC State University to prospective students, parents, and counselors by participating in such events as high school visits, college fairs, receptions, etc. There is extensive contact with the public by phone, e-mail, or in person. The position counsels prospective students, providing information about the University and its programs of study and admission standards, policies, and procedures.

Recruitment activities will involve extensive travel, both in state and out of state, and considerable public speaking. Weekend work will be required occasionally.

Assist with office operations and administrative duties including but not limited to answering telephones, greeting campus visitors, responding to email inquires, and assisting with other special projects.

Conduct information sessions on campus for prospective students and their parents.

Review academic credentials of freshmen applicants to make appropriate admissions decisions, based on a holistic review of the application and supporting documents, including specific degree requirements and student characteristics which would indicate success in these areas of study.

Required License or Certification

A valid North Carolina driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date.
