Reporting to an Assistant Dean, the Admission Counselor is an integral member of the admission staff charged with recruiting, selecting, and yielding the freshman/transfer classes. An entry-level introduction to the intricacies of the college admission process, responsibilities include: serving in a public relations/informational role with prospective applicants, their parents and high school guidance counselors; participating in the reading process; travelling to convey information about the admission process at regional events and school visits to identify/recruit applicants; managing a specific reading territory; and developing collegial relationships with school personnel in those areas.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required; one year of related experience a plus. Excellent skills in public speaking/written communication and reading comprehension; basic knowledge of higher education admission work; ability to work independently; sensitivity to multicultural/socioeconomic/regional differences and/or experience with students from diverse backgrounds; exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to organize time, plan programs and large group functions; a contagious enthusiasm for and belief in the value of a liberal arts education; ability to maintain confidentiality; flexible, good judgment, quick thinking; commitment to and knowledge of the university’s programs/ opportunities; ability to learn about the admission process and administration quickly. Must be able to travel throughout the year, including weekends and evenings.
