The Advanced Cockpit Electronics Planning Engineer position is in the Electronic Systems 1 (ES1) Department located at our Saline campus .

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Advanced planning, design and development of cockpit electronics for North American vehicle programs (multimedia, instrument cluster, climate control panel, switches and related parts)
  • Work with instrument panel, interior trim, seating, wire harness, ECU and other related departments to negotiate component packaging and system integration issues
  • Work with regulatory engineers to meet all requirements including planned legislation
  • Work with human factors engineers to meet all requirements and to develop new requirements for advanced technologies
  • Negotiate styling related concerns with styling design departments and other related design departments
  • Work with North American and overseas suppliers for benchmarking, industry trend analysis, advanced component/system planning/design and specification issuance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-8 years experience in automotive electrical/electronics parts development
  • Strong knowledge of automotive electrical/electronics systems including power distribution and data communication
  • Proficiency in design and packaging of parts using Catia V5 or a similar 3D CAD package
  • Understanding of software development processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus project management
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability and willingness to support extended hours, including communications with suppliers and/or other Toyota locations both domestically and internationally
  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

Toyota Technical Center (TTC) is a division of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing, North America Inc., established in 1977. TTC's Michigan R&D facilities are located in Ann Arbor, Saline, Plymouth and Livonia. In addition, TTC has testing facilities in Torrance and Gardena, California and a 10-mile oval test track in Wittmann, Arizona.
