DIRECTOR, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (AEROSPACE)

Qualifications:
Aerospace component or system design or development of Aerospace hydro mechanical or pneumatic components or systems

Masters or PhD in Science or Engineering or equivalent (BS with over 12 years of experience)

Minimum of 10 years Aerospace research and development, design or product development, preferably in hydraulics, fuel, lube or air systems.

Minimum of 7 years of experience managing a research and development function

Preferred Skills:
Good project management, computer/analytical/data analysis, manufacturing methods, solid and fluid mechanics and aircraft systems understanding

Excellent leadership, team building, and complex multi-disciplinary problem solving skills

Must be action oriented, results driven, and motivated to perform at a very high level, with the ability to balance business considerations

Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills; good presentation and ability to influence all levels of the organization

Must be customer focused and service oriented

Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities

Six Sigma certifications a plus

Ability to achieve results and manage others to achieve corporate, site and departmental objectives

Ability to work cooperatively in teams, and develop peer relationships

Deliver presentations to technical audience (e.g. educational/commercial seminars, tutorials, and organizations)

Superior organizational and multi-tasking capabilities

A change agent - ability to adapt, lead and implement change

Purpose:
This position is responsible for providing management oversight and strategic direction for research and development for the Aerospace segment. This includes managing a large cross functional team of people, assessing technical and scheduled risk, developing budgets and policies, and planning activities for the fiscal year. This position is also responsible for working with the scientific and laboratory staff and management to ensure compliance with authorized policies, procedures, and good practices. The incumbent will serve as a change agent that champions quality, process, and product improvements.

Responsibilities:
Manage research and development projects and cross functional project teams

Generate and evaluate new ideas, concepts, technologies and products

Work closely with strategic marketing on understanding customer problems

Open innovation, working with academia or suppliers to initiate new ideas or concepts

Develop new test specifications to ensure we maintain our technological edge

Develop and track fiscal budgets, including OPEX and CAPEX

Participate in either ISO, NFPA or SAE committee activity

Drive the establishment and upkeep of management systems to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, customer requirements, and internal policies

Develop, establish, and manage service performance surveillance systems including review and approval of customer communications

Establishes strategic goals by gathering business, financial, service, and operations information; identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing the course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-art practices; participating in professional societies

Accomplish results by communicating job expectations; coach and develop staff; and assure compliance to systems, policies, and procedures
