Performs intermediate human support work planning, coordinating, implementing and supervising a variety of recreation activities and special events; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Recreation Program Supervisor. Supervision may be exercised over assigned program staff.
Essential Job Functions*:
Position may involve standing and walking both indoors and outdoors for extended periods; sedentary tasks minimal. Must be physically able to demonstrate the proper technique to perform a variety of physical activities and have the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move equipment and supplies customary and reasonable in a recreation environment. Vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. Hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or make fine distinctions in sound. Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and required to wear specialized protective equipment.
Organizes, conducts and supervises the program planning and implementation on the designated site for a specific population or for a program specialty; Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; Arranges special programs and activities and plans and submits program schedule; Collects revenue; Submits requests for maintenance, material and equipment; Assists in establishing discipline procedures with staff and participants; Attends staff meetings; Distributes and collects permission slips; Insures all safety precautions are practiced, completes accident reports and provides first aid; Prepares and submits various reports including payroll, program plan, attendance, inventory, program evaluation, flyers and other means of publicity; Opens, supervises and secures facilities; Reports to work on assigned duty schedule; Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.
Assists in promotion of other division programs such as distribution of printed materials; Assists with division Special Events as requested; Works at sites other than primary location as needed and scheduled by supervisor; Conducts participant registration, operates vehicles as required.

General knowledge of the philosophy and activities of community recreation; General knowledge of instructional techniques to instruct staff and volunteers about policies, operations, planning, etc.; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with coworkers, program participants, and the general public; Ability to apply concepts presented in training programs and staff meetings; Ability to provide first aid assistance when needed; Ability to keep simple records and make reports; Ability to plan recreational activities for children; Ability to work with and instruct group activities including instructing volunteers about policies, operations, plans, etc.
Education and experience equivalent to an Associate Degree in leisure services or a related field.
Special License and Certificates:
Possession of or ability to acquire first aid certificate. Possession of a valid drivers license.
