This Agriculture Program Manager position will focus on building out NWF’s work on biofuels and grasslands conservation, mainly by working in the Great Plains region of the country. This position will interact with academics, government agencies, and other practitioners to compile and disseminate technical information, as well as focusing heavily on grassroots outreach collaborations with NWF affiliates and members, other like-minded groups, state and local agricultural leaders, and state level coalitions.
Take the lead on promoting sustainable biofuels, especially in the Great Plains region, including: coordinating with colleagues in other organizations, researching and developing comments on rule makings and other federal policies related to biofuels; developing workshops, meetings, reports, and outreach materials related to sustainable biofuels development, with an emphasis on the Great Plains.
Take a leadership role in developing NWF’s work on grasslands conservation, including helping to organize the America’s Grasslands Conference, producing the proceedings of the conference, and shepherding NWF’s grasslands working groups, including taking charge of the “Raising the Profile of Grasslands” working group and beginning to raise funding to implement group activities. Will also take the lead in work to reach out to key ranchers in the west to develop relationships and explore synergies in promoting continued ranching on native grasslands over conversion to row cropping.
General help on other agriculture program activities as needed
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, environmental science, natural resources or other related field.
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in a similar environment.
Outstanding written and oral communications skills; ability to juggle multiple tasks; extremely well organized with great attention to detail
Self starter and possesses high degree of initiative
Strong interpersonal and networking skills; able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 2007 and/or 2010.
General knowledge of biofuels and/or grasslands conservation issues as they relate to wildlife; some technical knowledge regarding wildlife, conservation, agriculture and/or global warming preferred.
