Global Good (GG) is small evergreen invention development fund managed by Intellectual Ventures. GG’s charter is to solve challenging problems facing the developing world by using developed world invention, product development, and business development techniques. GG’s focus is on invention and proof of concept work and finding partners to take over commercialization and deployment of the product concepts. GG works very closely with The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (“BMGF”) Trust, and also with governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and commercial partners to target, conceive, develop and deploy inventions that improve and save lives.

The Group Leader for Alliance Management will be a senior member of the Global Good Partner Development team and be primarily responsible for developing Global Good licensing relationships into strategic, profitable, and socially impactful partnerships. S/he will grow and lead an Alliance Management team, which will expand as the number of Global Good licensing partners increases. S/he will work closely with Business Development, Portfolio, and Research and Strategy teams to create shared value with licensing partners across multiple Global Good product themes and products. The position reports to the Director of Partner Development, with whom s/he will work closely to develop and execute Global Good’s unique model of catalytic invention, which focuses on directly partnering with companies to deliver shared value in the developing world.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and grow the relationships with recently acquired licensing partners that are commercializing Global Good’s vaccine cold chain technology (large, publically listed Chinese company) and Global Good’s Milk Transport Systems (MTS) technology (company in Kenya and Dutch development organization in Ethiopia)
  • Develop strategies to deepen relationships with licensing partners through the development of derivative products from the original licensed products and the introduction of new products from Global Good
  • In support of licensing partners, develop and execute Global Good Partner Development Initiatives (PDIs) to support achievement of business objectives related to licensed products. PDIs will be both product focused (e.g., market launch and development services directly related to the licensed product(s) and strategic (e.g., supporting client’s development of commercial strategies based on Creating Shared Values or other equivalent principles)
  • Work with other members of the Partner Development team, build and manage an ecosystem of partners, including the Gates Foundation, its grantees, other major development organizations, and private-sector partners, to support licensing partners
  • Monitor performance of licenses on a monthly and quarterly basis and provide quarterly updates to Global Good and Intellectual Ventures executives, Global Good’s sponsor, and key stakeholders
  • Work with Global Good’s Field Research team, support evaluation of progress and impact of licensed products
  • Support due diligence of prospective licensing partners
  • Generate knowledge from our partnerships for sharing internally and with key stakeholders

Key Qualifications and Required Skills:
  • Passionate commitment to solving the toughest problems of poverty through business and market-based solutions
  • Alliance management experience within a biotech or pharmaceuticals company
  • Executive experience within early-stage technology companies or within large companies building new businesses
  • Experience in one or more of the following: strategic planning, product management, sales and marketing, and business development
  • Management of a portfolio of equity investments in early-stage companies
  • Experience developing businesses in developing countries
  • Experience working with global health and development organizations
    10+ years in a product company and / or venture capital firm with MBA and technical undergraduate degree
  • Very strong analytical and financial skills
  • Excellent written skills and executive-level oral and presentation skills
  • Ability to foster trust and achieve results through influence versus direct control
  • Foreign language, especially Chinese, a plus
