The analyst will investigate, evaluate, and improve the safety and risk management system that is integrated across all departments associated with the Clinic which includes programs to achieve the proactive prevention, identification, elimination, or reduction of the number and severity of safety risks and losses. This includes the identification, investigation and resolution of significant adverse events. In addition, the role will also be accountable for tracking the number and severity of risks/losses and serious incidents and for implementing risk reduction and loss prevention activities to meet performance targets related to patient safety and continuous quality improvement. This position will work with guidance and direction from the Safety and Risk Management Project Manager as well as the Director of Risk Management.
40% Complaint Resolution: Works with managers in various departments to assist in resolving complaints that are service related. Receives referrals and intervenes with patient and/or family to resolve non-service, adverse or serious/sentinel event related complaints. May review/edit communications from managers or medical staff.
40% Event Investigation & Follow-up: Reviews and completes follow-up and investigation as needed on adverse or serious/sentinel events including but not limited to root cause analysis, failure mode effects analysis, and other methodologies as appropriate. Coordinates reviews with multiple departments and affiliated care providers when necessary (e.g., hospital, radiology staff, long term care facilities, etc.).
10% Process Improvement: Participates in process improvement projects to improve safety and reduce risk. Participates in risk assessments throughout the organization to identify areas of risk and recommends improvement. Recommends policy and procedure changes to improve patient safety, and outcomes.
5% Education: Coordinates with the Safety and Risk Management Project Manager to design and present educational material related to risk management and patient safety.
3% Quality Referrals: Makes referrals for provider specific quality review to the Medical Director for Quality/Chair of Quality Committee.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The ability to demonstrate knowledge of and utilize the principles, practices, and techniques of patient safety and risk management, including risk identification, assessment, analysis, treatment, evaluation of risk management processes and systems (including root cause analysis), and quality management/improvement principles, methods, and techniques. This position requires the ability to establish and negotiate positive relationships to continuously promote the program; Therefore excellent oral, written and non-verbal communication skills, problem solving, time management, conflict resolution, counseling/interview and human relations skills are necessary.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and attend to detail and follow up.Knowledge of medical terminology, ability to read and interpret medical records.Knowledge of statues, regulations, policies and any other appropriate guidelines relating to medical malpractice, insurance, the healthcare industry and civil law.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a health related field. Clinical skills and education preferred (e.g., RN).
Experience: Two to three years experience in Risk Management, Patient Safety or an associated field. Relevant experience in health care setting providing applicant with
working knowledge of patient care procedures and health care operations and skills in working with healthcare professionals. Experience in managing multifaceted projects in a complex organizational setting
