Our Shared Service division offers a unique and challenging opportunity for a Analytical Chemist . This position will be based out of our Port Washington facilities in Long Island , New York . This position is responsible for performing advanced laboratory studies in the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory within Pall’s SLS Global Technical Support. This work will be in support of research and development activities, as well as external customer support. The position includes operation, method development, troubleshooting and maintenance of a variety of analytical instruments, including HPLC, UV, FTIR, TOC, GC/MS,LC/MS, and LC/MS/MS. Accurate and timely data interpretation of the results is also required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Advanced knowledge in the field of organic/analytical chemistry
Ability to plan and develop analytical methods to achieve technical objectives
Ability to select appropriate methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to meet project objectives
Identify and resolve technical problems during method development
Ability to qualify and/or validate new test methods
Critically analyze complex data
Interpret and integrate experimental results with project objectives
Ability to effectively interact at a high technical level and understand test requirements from Laboratory Customers
Maintain accurate and detailed notebooks in accordance with current quality standards (ISO9001, cGMP)
Investigate, create and develop new methods and technologies
Ability to write Standard Operating Procedures
Prepare technical laboratory reports, project summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
Maintain high level of expertise through scientific literature, attendance at technical conferences etc
Comply with all Pall safety regulations and procedures
Ability to train others on new test methods
Participate in focus teams etc, as appropriate
Assure scientific quality and customer service expectations are met
Ability to work independently with only general direction provided
Regularly communicate project status and implications to relevant parties
Input into Laboratory Operations (Resource planning (CapEx, headcount etc), Planning of Work Schedules, Priority and conflict resolution)
Discuss with laboratory customers and accept laboratory job orders, as required
Technical review of other chemists’ test results
Technical approval of SLS Analytical Chemistry laboratory project output, as required
Perform other related duties as required
Education, Knowledge & Experience
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Deliver presentations to both a technical audience (e.g. educational/commercial seminars, tutorials and organizations) and non-technical audience (e.g. investors, non-technical customer contacts)
Writing reports, texts, and publications in internal and external publications (e.g. journals, trade magazines, research reports)
Work independently with established goals, on multiple complex projects
Self-motivated and drives for results
Superior organizational and multitasking capabilities
Able to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization
Must be customer focused and service oriented
Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and Power Point and other relevant electronic systems

Must keep abreast of latest changes in regulatory standards, technologies, research and development in area of expertise.
Must have current hands-on experience on GC/MS and LC/MS in industry laboratory environment, biopharmaceutical company preferred.
Ability to identify unknown compounds and quantify them
Prefer having bioprocess knowledge (but not required)
