Job Summary:
This position provides physical and psychological enrichment for the dogs in the Rehabilitation Center. Enrichment will follow set protocols for each individual animal, and may include: feeding enrichments, toys, A/V enrichment, olfactory enrichment, kennel furnishings, supervised play sessions with other dogs, walks, socialization and play sessions with people, and training sessions.

Job Responsibilities:
Provide physical and psychological enrichment as outlined in protocols and directed by supervisors

Provide feedback on dogs’ behavior, enrichment, and rehabilitation progress to Center staff and supervisors.

Assist in implementing behavior modification, training and enrichment protocols as instructed by supervisors

Assist in conducting behavior evaluations to assess and track dogs’ rehabilitation progress

Collect and report data on a daily basis to measure and monitor dogs’ enrichment experiences and rehabilitation progress

Provide detailed and objective information to supervisors as necessary for disposition decisions

Provide clerical assistance in maintaining treatment, enrichment and behavior databases.

BS or BA preferred but not necessary

Job candidates must have a minimum of two years experience working directly with animals at a shelter, training facility, dog day care, dog walking service, or boarding kennel.

Dog training experience is preferred.

Experience with very fearful dogs is desirable.

Knowledge Requirements:
Knowledge of canine behavior and training using primarily reward-based techniques

Skills Requirements:
Safe and humane dog handling skills

Meticulous behavioral data collection and reporting skills

Ability to accurately enter data into database programs such as Excel, FileMaker or Access after basic training from supervisor.

Very good computer skills

Good team player

Excellent communication skills with people, enjoy working with people

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Additional Information:
The successful candidate should acknowledge and accept that this position requires very close work with very behaviorally compromised animals, and provision of information that will be used to make disposition decisions including, at times, euthanasia.
