JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs routine duties associated with animal care in a research setting. Prepares food and feeds animals, maintains sanitary conditions, observes animal conditions and behavior, and collects animal specimens. May assist in animal restraint, maintaining animal housing and minor cage maintenance. Performs related responsibilities as required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

DEPARTMENT JOB DESCRIPTION : A part-time technician is needed who has experience with murine xenograft models. The technician will create/treat xenografts of human tumor derived neuroblastoma cell lines injected into the flank of nude athymic mice and create/treat models of metastatic disease with luciferase-tagged NB cell lines injected into tail vein, using fluorescence bio-imaging to measure disease burden and treatment response. Experience with creating murine xenografts from human derived cultured tumor cell lines, tail vein injections, intra-peritoneal injections, oral gavage delivery, minor mouse surgery (for intra-peritoneal pump placement) as well as bleeding mice and caliper measurement of flank tumors is required. Experience in basic molecular and genetic techniques such as western blotting, RT-PCR, cell culture maintenance of cell lines and transfected lines, is needed. The technician should have experience with data interpretation, experiment and protocol creation, as well as be versed in using computer programs to analyze data and create legible figures (Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, GraphPad Prism, etc).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of animal husbandry or related animal care experience OR two years of animal husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility.
