NCIRE has an opportunity for an Animal Care Technician to be responsibile for support for health care and/or environmental control activities and work directly related to the collection, receiving, housing and handling, evaluation, breeding, nutrition, treatment, and disposition of a wide variety of animals. Supports the Director and other staff in such areas as husbandry, research animal production, management and disease recognition.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for care taking of rodents, protected species and large research animals
Care taking of transgenic rodents maintained under barrier conditions
Maintenance of rodent breeding colonies under barrier conditions; includes record-keeping, weaning, animal identification
Maintenance and supply of a large animal surgery
Maintenance of large animals in post-surgical recovery
Maintenance of quarantined or infected rodents
Assists Director and Health Care Technicians in ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
Unloading, storage, stacking of food and bedding materials,
Position requires ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs.
Routine, cleaning, sweeping, and mopping of facility.
Ability to work in cage wash area and moving heavy equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED or combination of education and experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of personnel
Position requires ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs.
A basic knowledge of para-veterinary procedures including euthanasia, administering medications and injections a plus but willing to train
