University of Southern California The University of Southern California, Department of Animal Resources is seeking a very reliable, dependable, self-motivated and responsible individual for a position as Animal Laboratory Technician I. The Department of Animal Resources takes pride in providing optimal animal care for all animals housed at the university for the purposes of biomedical research and teaching. The Animal Laboratory Technician I is responsible for providing daily animal care and maintenance of associated facilities for housing a variety of animal species located on both campuses of the university. Responsibilities/Outcomes: ? Ensures that animals are provided appropriate care in accordance with university, state and federal guidelines and regulations to promote physical and psychological well-being and minimize discomfort ? Maintains cleanliness and organization of cages, equipment, surgical areas and storage facilities ? Performs daily cleaning and disinfection of animal housing facilities and equipment ? Performs daily cage-changing and cleaning and sanitation of areas housing animals ? Observes and recognizes signs of illness or abnormalities in animals and ensures timely reporting of animals needing veterinary attention ? Performs daily washing and sterilization of cages and bedding ? Prepares and distributes animal food and water as instructed, including specialized diets ? Maintains accurate written and computerized animal and facility related records ? Maintains material and animal inventories ? Assists veterinarians and principal investigators with handling of animals during procedures Minimum qualifications: ? High school diploma or GED ? 1 year of animal care and handling experience preferred or combined education and experience as a substitute for minimum experience ? AALAS certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician preferred ? Basic computer skills ? Ability to maintain legible written records and forms ? Valid California Drivers License ? Self motivation requiring minimal supervision ? Pride in work ethics, quality, and accomplishments It's an exciting time at USC. 1 year Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience

Minimum Field of Expertise:
Completion of training for Assistant ALT Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education:
Associate's degree

Preferred Experience:
2 years

Preferred Field of Expertise:
Assistant ALT Certification with experience in a veterinary hospital kennel or animal research laboratory
