Job Posting
Covance is currently seeking an Animal Technician for the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology Department.

As an Animal Technician you will:
• Clean feeders, water bottles, animal caging, and other items. Clean and sanitize animal rooms or pens, hallways, stairways, and non-animal rooms.
• Collects, records, and learns to review applicable hand recorded and computer generated data.
• Operates and performs quality control checks on appropriate equipment.
• Changes animal racks.
• Provides clean waste removal system and changes air filters.
• Receive new animals, set up housing, provide feed and water, and fill out animal arrival information.
• Monitor animal room and feed storage environmental conditions (e.g., lighting system, temperature, humidity, watering system, condition of animals).
• Assist other staff with technical functions such as obtaining bodyweights.
• Dispense feed for use in animal studies.
• Inventory equipment, animals, and pan papers.
• Maintain equipment and animal disposition log books.
• Maintain safe work environment.
• Learns to observe animals for general health.
• Learns to operate more advanced equipment as required.
• Recognizes deviations from normal or expected outcomes based on known reference standards and makes recommendations to supervisor.
• Makes minor adjustments to basic equipment or apparatus and suggests changes in routine test procedures.
• May train and instruct less experienced staff.
• Maintains well documented laboratory records according to GLPs.
• Recognize and document unusual occurrences and notifies supervisor.
• Report all animal care concerns and becomes involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action when necessary.
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Education/Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 3 months of related experience.
• Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals.
• AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is desirable
Experience
