The Palm Beach Zoo is currently seeking a full-time keeper to join our growing staff. The zoo’s staff work in a positive, team-oriented environment that supports our mission to promote increased environmental awareness and conservation through excellent animal, veterinary, and management practices coupled with positive visitor experiences.
The successful candidate will be responsible for executing excellence in all assigned duties including husbandry and care of multiple species (including primates, birds, carnivores, and other mammals), preparation and administration of diets, maintenance and proper sanitation of exhibits, observation, record-keeping, implementation of training and enrichment, medical care of animals as deemed appropriate, and providing positive guest experiences. Animal Keepers at Palm Beach Zoo engage visitors on a daily basis through formal and informal animal encounters. The successful candidate will be comfortable talking with the public and seek opportunities to do so.
Minimum requirements include 1 year full-time experience as an animal keeper in a zoo or equivalent animal facility. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; display a positive and professional demeanor; be self-motivated; able to work cooperatively with staff, interns and volunteers; be able to work weekends and holidays; work outdoors in inclement weather; able to lift 50 pounds; and be able to pass pre-employment background check, drug and TB tests. A Bachelor’s degree in a biological field is preferred. Computer competency is essential.
