SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, provides application-level support of software. Utilizes extensive knowledge of railroad operations. Designs data requirements and supports systems. Responsible for analysis, configuration, reporting, auditing, and documentation of application systems. Responsible for security of application systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Analyzes organization needs regarding software solutions.

• Analyzes customer needs regarding software solutions.

• Investigates, plans, configures, implements, and monitors software solutions.

• Maintains software system control tables.

• Maintains software security.

• Prepares on-line and hard copy documentation of systems and user applications.

• Provides instruction and training to customers and employees on software procedures.

• Performs problem resolution and provides on-call support for software solutions.

• Frequent travel to railroads to implement and support software. Travel estimate is 30-95%.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot software.

• Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

• Knowledge of railroad operations and data requirements.

• Knowledge of EDI and AEI use in railroad operations.

• Ability to develop and write applications documentation and guides for customers and users.

• Ability to provide a range of applications training and/or support activities for customers and users.

• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.

• Ability to determine the nature of software application problems, and to communicate guidance and information to customers and users.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree or equivalent; or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
