APPLICATION TECHNICIAN - AH&N

GENERAL SUMMARY
This position works under general direction and is primarily responsible for utilizing microbiological techniques to conduct internal and external technical service requests for the AH&N business unit. This position may also be responsible for quality control testing.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (* = Essential Functions)
1. Prioritizes, schedules, and performs technical service requests (TSR) as defined by the QC Supervisor.
2. Performs laboratory procedures including routine microbiological analyses. Maintains and organizes data, including entry of data into Lims, documentation of lab reports, lab requisitions and files in the applicable databases. Follows-up with appropriate personnel when necessary.
3. Documents and coordinates implementation of techniques and standard operating procedures.
4. Maintains good laboratory practices and laboratory rooms according to standard operating procedures.
5. Interacts with QC, production, product managers, and global RD&A staff.
6. Keeps lab supplies and materials well stocked and places orders when necessary.
7. Participates regularly in staff and other group meetings to share data, ideas and updates.
8. Perform all other duties as assigned. Reports to work on time and works overtime as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Ability to read, write and speak English is a requirement of this position.
2. Employee will be required to perform tests using a variety of laboratory equipment.
3. A highly professional manner relating to conduct, appearance and attitude must be maintained.
4. Ability to participate in projects.
5. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks and work flows.
6. Must have knowledge of AH&N microbiology.
7. Ability to participate in a team-driven environment but able to work independently.
8. Possess a working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs. SAP and Lims experience is required.
9. May require travel 1-3% annually.
10. These characteristics are normally acquired through a Bachelors degree in a related field and a minimum of one year related experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working environment is generally favorable and consists of a laboratory environment. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate. Personal Protective Equipment is required at all times. This includes a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and gloves.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 30 lbs. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and chemicals.
