Major responsibilities include installing transformer-rated metering equipment for commercial and industrial customers, performing vector analysis of meter installation to verify proper installation, programming electronic metering equipment to match appropriate rate and service type, troubleshooting equipment problems and performing necessary repairs, and performing field testing of metering equipment in accordance with appropriate schedules.
This position requires a minimum of an Associate’s degree in an electrical or computer field of study. Applicants should possess a valid driver’s license, the ability to lift 70 pounds, ability to work in a field environment in temperature extremes, proficiency in the use of a Personal Computer, manual dexterity to operate hand-held equipment, and knowledge to perform trigonometric computations. Applicants shall have strong math skills and a strong mechanical/electrical aptitude. Applicants should also have inter-personal skills that will facilitate working in a group environment and communicating with customers.
This position, located in the Denmark Shop off of Highway 321 in Denmark, has a direct impact on the success of the departmental mission through the proper installation of metering equipment. This employee provides an invaluable service through execution of various meter maintenance and testing programs, ensuring compliance with PSC rules and regulations. The apprentice meterman is a 4-year apprenticeship (8 steps); however, depending on experience level of the applicant, they may be eligible to start at a pay and step other than Step 1.
