The Torigian Family YMCA, in Peabody, MA, serves over 11,000 members and provides lessons, fitness classes, recreation and competitive swimming to members of all ages and abilities in our 8-lane indoor and outdoor pools. The Aquatics Director will develop, organize and implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs to the Peabody/Lynnfield community and establish the Torigian Family YMCA as the leader in aquatic programming.
Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
Leads by example by being present to lifeguard, teach classes and conduct pool maintenance duties on a regularly scheduled basis.
Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, CPR and AED trainings within the branch and for the overall association.
Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets. Manages the influx of swimmers and guests during swim meets.
Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Quickly addresses any trends that adversely affect the program budget.
Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. Leads by example by supporting the annual support campaign.
Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
Assists with Program Committee meetings. Attends community meetings as they relate to Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility to promote YMCA Aquatic programming.
Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
Bachelor's degree in human services, physical education, recreation or related field.
Minimum of 3 years experience, with direct supervisory responsibility, as an Aquatics Director or Assistant Director of a large aquatics program.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Must be Lifeguard and WSI certified. First Aid/CPR and Lifeguard Instructor preferred.
Completion of Redwoods Safety Trainings prior to first day on the job
Experience managing a multi pool site preferred
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Experience in working with all age groups from children through seniors.
The director will have sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
Salary: $42,000 - $52,000
