Performs highly-responsible and technical professional architectural work to research, plan, design, and prepare construction documents. Confers with department and community representatives to determine functional and spatial requirements. Prepares specifications, architectural drawings, cost estimates, and project schedules for new, remodeled, rehabbed, or restored facilities. Provides clients and stakeholders with alternatives at various cost and functional levels. Manages the projects ensuring compliance with safety, building codes, and contract specifications. May coordinate and oversee the work of partner consultants in completing projects. Inspects construction projects and takes action to resolve potential problems. Promotes collaborative, integrated problem solving to address accessibility, aesthetics, cost, functional, and operational considerations, safety, security, and environmental sustainability. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Current Position Information:
The Design and Construction Division of the City of Saint Paul’s Department of Parks and Recreation, has a tremendous opportunity for an experienced Registered Architect with excellent people skills to work in our downtown Saint Paul office. Saint Paul Parks and Recreation's Design and Construction Division is an award winning design office which oversees the planning, design and construction of Saint Paul’s 4,120 acres of City owned and managed parkland (including over 180 buildings) and is one of the most widely recognized park systems in the country.

Our staff works on a variety of publicly/privately funded projects ranging from children's play areas to multi-million dollar community centers, major zoo facilities, and regional parks and trail facilities. Current projects include the new $54M Lowertown Ballpark (partnering with the Saint Paul Saints Ball Club) and the $10M Payne-Maryland Library/Recreation Center. Recent projects include completion of a $1.2M Master Plan for Saint Paul’s 17 miles of riverfront parks and a multi-million dollar restoration of our Polar Bear and Gorilla exhibits in Como Park. Upcoming projects are the Palace Recreation Center and park facilities within Lilydale Regional Park. This position will serve as the lead architect, typically managing multiple projects at the same time and may also be lead designer on smaller projects.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture. Must be registered as a Licensed Architect in the State of Minnesota. Must have a total of six years of progressively responsible experience as an architect, with three years of experience in managing commercial and/or institutional construction projects.

No substitution for education or registration.

Must possess and maintain a valid Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. The driver's license must have no suspensions or revocations for driving related offenses within the two year period prior to the date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.
