NC Department of Public InstructionArea: Financial & Business ServicesDivision: School SupportSection: School Planning Working title: ArchitectThis position works in the School Planning Section of the Department of Public Instruction and requires the respect of the design and educational community as a knowledgeable and experienced leader in the field of school design. Main duties of this position include: Building design plan technical review and evaluation, On-site visits and consultation, Interpretation of instructional programs, Research and policy development, Development and management of computerized facility database programs, Website management, Research and development of publications, Presentation of topics at workshops, seminars, and conferences, and Coordination with other agencies to develop, gather, and disseminate information on environmental sustainability issues, building codes, sanitation, etc. This position should have a willingness to further education in specialized fields and computer programs to support the work group, and other duties as assigned.This position is located in Raleigh, NC and will require occasional travel. This position is subject to a criminal background check.KSAs: An ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of school facilities, educational programs, and how to translate this information to school boards who are planning new facilities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge through training and experience of how to identify changing educational and construction trends and translate the importance and meaning to school officials, architects, and engineers. The candidate should have a thorough knowledge and understanding of architectural principles, building codes, and construction of K-12 school facilities. The candidate should also have extensive experience and knowledge of programming K-12 school facilities and development of educational specifications. The candidate should have computer skills including experience with databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and a basic knowledge of desktop publishing.
Minimum requirements include a bachelors degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment and one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Candidates must be licensed to practice architecture or landscape architecture by the North Carolina Board of Architecture or the North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects. All degrees must have been received from appropriately accredited institutions.Management prefers candidates with at least 15 years of experience, primarily in public or private school design (as an Architectural Consultant). LEED Accreditation is highly desirable.Recruitment for this position will target the Advanced level of the Architecture band. The hiring range for this position is ($67222-75704) and the salary will be commensurate with the applicants competencies as well as the budget, equity, and market considerations. If no candidates are identified at the Advanced competency level, management may consider candidates at the Journey competency level. The hiring range at this level will be ($58380-67220).
