Typical Responsibilities:
  • Researches historical background of diverse structures, technical issues, and code issues
  • Plans and mobilizes for site inspections/investigations
  • Prepares baseline drawings, drawings based upon as-built measurements, AutoCAD drawings and specifications, and assists with preparation of final project manuals
  • Prepares bid documents, addenda, change orders, investigation reports, and other work product
  • Conducts on-site inspections/investigations including surveying and documenting distress, field testing, sampling, photographing, and sketching
  • Conducts on-site observations of work in progress
  • Organizes field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving
  • Analyzes research and investigation data and develops alternate schemes for solving problems
  • Monitors and/or conducts field testing
  • Attends field meetings and prepares site observation reports
  • Maintains project records
  • Performs computer analysis of heat and moisture movement
Requirements:

Ideally, we’re looking for someone with the following:
  • Master’s degree in architecture
  • 2 to 3 years of related work experience
  • Strong interest in building technology, investigating and solving problems in existing structures, rather than in new design
  • Excellent grades and academic and professional references
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Research skills
  • Strong computer skills including CAD, structural analysis programs, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn and work independently
  • Ability to work in the field
  • Willingness and ability to travel outside local area for project assignments

  • Analytical - Interest in building science, including having a basic understanding of heat and moisture movement through building enclosures, and interest in performance of building enclosures, particularly air infiltration, water infiltration, and heat transfer
