Job Title: Area Sales Manager
Location: Houston/Sugarland, TX.
Under general direction, plans and conducts sales activities to sell guest rooms and meeting facilities in a geographic area by following our Sales Procedures in order to build hotel occupancy and revenues for our Hotels. Responsible for achieving the revenue goals set forth by the Regional Sales Manager and Vice President of Sales and Marketing. An average of 80% of time is devoted to customer contact.
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Requires general knowledge of sales techniques and basic business practices. Requires ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Requires good clerical skills to include typing at 40 w.p.m., and composition of letters and reports. Requires ability to operate an automobile in the daily routine of making sales calls. Stays abreast of our marketing programs and trends in the marketplace.
Completes required sales duties in designated time as outlined. Included but not limited to: Dialing for dollars, setting appointments, timely follow up to customers, saturating accounts, research and planning, etc.
Contacts designated accounts, approved by Regional Sales Manager to earn their rooms business for our hotels. Makes well prepared, professional presentations to clients and prospects.
Has a +1 Service Attitude and provides courteous, friendly guest service by responding promptly and efficiently to designated account inquiries, requests, and complaints.
Demonstrates initiative in finding new business and new contacts within existing accounts resulting in increased revenue. Understands rate strategies and trends for their market segment.
Consistently works with entire Team (Central Groups, National Accounts, Preferred Account Coordinator, and Tour Sales) to promote chain selling.
Negotiates corporate rates for new and existing clients that qualify for BizTrip Program. Follows proper approval process.
Is aware of competition, top accounts, rates and sales strategies on an ongoing basis. Stays abreast of trends in the marketplace.
Appreciates the diversity of our team members, guests, vendors and surrounding community. Is committed to ensuring a positive and safe work environment at all times.
Conducts professional, well prepared property tours for corporate accounts by explaining Company history, assessing customer needs and demonstrating value by selling benefits.
Works with property team members to coordinate and follow up on key business leads. Utilizes networking time at breakfast and 5:30 Kickback to promote Company programs and obtain key business leads a minimum of once a month.
Participates in Sales Blitz's, Open Houses and completes follow up in a timely manner with potential corporate clients (may include traveling to other properties)/
Keeps up to date on information relating to sales and marketing by utilizing resources such as Internet, Hospitality Associations, business journals, tracking reports and STR (Smith Travel Research) report.
Promotes excellence / professionalism in internal and external customer service (i.e., clients, hotel guests, Gold Key Members, Inner Circle Members, and our team members.)
Understands Company programs and policies including, but not limited to: Sales our Company Way, our Gold Key Club, our Inner Circle, and Group Inquiry Calls.
Maintains accounts for our Inner Circle Members and complies with our Inner Circle Regulations.
Works a minimum of 45 hours per week not include personal time or lunch.
Complies with hotel's safety / security policies and procedures and instructions in performing work efficiently while protecting self, fellow team members and the hotel.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
MUST HAVE Either Hotel Sales background or very strong B2B

Requires basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Requires effective time management and organizational skills. Requires ability to operate an automobile in the daily routine of making sales calls.
