As a member of our business category management team, your mission is to make Squarespace the platform of choice for the art community, including artists, galleries, museums, and more. You will work as a general manager leveraging all the disciplines of our growth team to achieve your business objectives.
The category manager shapes an entire vertical business at Squarespace, from product requirements to competitive analysis through to customer development and subscriber growth. This is a highly visible role with the rare opportunity to be exposed to all of our internal teams and all levels of the org on a day-to-day basis, creating an ever changing work flow. Each vertical is different, with different business needs, target audiences, business partners, and marketing strategies.
Yes, this job is awesome.
The business category manager is an interdisciplinary role that requires a candidate to be fluent across the broad spectrum of disciplines and skills required to build and grow a successful online venture in the art space. As a result there is a real emphasis on personability, curiosity, and open-mindedness alongside high expectations for your hard product, bd, marketing, and thought leadership skills.
You will drive go-to-market strategy for your vertical, developing marketing plans for our media team to execute, pursuing strategic business development partnerships, engaging co-marketing and distribution partners, creating a content and education strategy, speaking on panels and at conferences, holding relevant industry events, and influencing our product and engineering roadmap.
You will be equal parts entrepreneur, solo pilot, team lead, and cheerleader, sitting side-by-side with our growth team, engaging our product leadership, and establishing a thought leadership voice in the industry. Most importantly, you will make our customers and potential customers your priority every day of the week, using effective research to demonstrate how Squarespace products solve the customer’s problems and create new opportunities for them to grow their business and for us to grow our market share.
Taste, you've worked as an artist or in a gallery or museum, and you have business experience in a relevant aspect of the art space.
You must be technical — but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to have a Computer Science degree or be proficient in writing code. It does mean you are able to communicate with the engineers and designers in a way that instills trust and a belief that you know what they’re talking about.
BA/BS degree (or higher) in a quantitative or technical field, and 5-12 years valuable work experience demonstrating an ever-increasing set of responsibilities and exposure to multiple business disciplines.
High IQ and EQ. Sense of humor a must.
Experience in the technology marketplace with demonstrated expertise in driving consumer demand.
Experience planning and executing sophisticated marketing programs and business development initiatives including budget responsibilities and results orientation.
Experience building, selling, distributing, or marketing consumer based Internet or software services (SaaS or e-commerce a distinct plus).
Comfort with web analytics, data attribution, and forecast modelling. Excel and SQL skills certainly helpful. Big bonus for Python or other programming expertise.
Deeply passionate about technology and design. Love of Squarespace probably doesn’t hurt.
Self-starter who doesn't need a boss and has outstanding attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Natural leader with strong verbal and written communication skills who is energized by networking, meeting new people, and demonstrating and evangelising products.
