The Art Director plays a very important role within the organization. This position would be responsible for artistic direction of our brand, leading a team of graphic designers to create, develop and execute creative branding concepts for all visual mediums. The ideal Art Director translates trends, messages, concepts, and underdeveloped or "crazy" ideas into imagery that is appealing and attractive to our targeted audience.
Duties and responsibilities:
Spearhead the execution of all branding support, including printed collateral, sales/marketing materials and brand presentations, branding on product, 3-D environment (shop in shop, fixture unit package) and all visual touch points across all categories. Weave a seamless thread on all creative output that fall in line with overall creative direction and help to achieve business goals.
Oversee the artistic direction of the brand by creating, developing and executing layouts, concepts, visual appearances, and imagery in general for company branding, from concept through production.
Manage and mentor the graphics team and work with other brand stakeholders to ensure the brand message is upheld and executed to perfection.
Oversee the general aesthetic, graphic layout and related maintenance of the company website
Work in partnership with both the marketing and brand development teams to ensure vision alignment and consistency with current projects
Oversee print production. This includes, among others, approvals for all printed materials, artwork and copy.
Work in partnership with the copywriter/s to devise an overall concept where both visual and content flow consistently.
Manage the workflow for all projects between different remote business units (Detroit, Dallas, New York) and different caliber of professionals from Sr. creative professionals to interns.
May actively participate in creative discussions to determine the direction of promotional and sales campaigns.
Work and create good business partnerships with outside vendors and suppliers while maintaining budgets and negotiating reasonable pricing for all related projects.
Play an integral role in the brand's relationship with the College of Creative Studies (CCS), being the face and voice of Shinola when interacting with the Graphics Department and other faculty member or authorities.
Create a year round Shinola graphics internship program with CCS so there's a constant flow of highly talented designers.
Work closely with the store management team and Public Relations staff to support events, and any promotional initiative.
Friendly and approachable when interacting with stakeholders, customers and other team members.
Independent to exercise sound judgment and make sound decisions within the area of his/her responsibility.
Flexible and adaptable to become a team-oriented individual that fits in a collaborative fast-paced, results-oriented work environment.
Organized to understand, and prioritize projects, tasks, and assignments in order to handle a constant stream of "high-priority" projects.
Receptive to appreciate diversity of ideas and backgrounds in a diverse working environment.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the fashion/apparel/watch industry with at least 5 years working as Art Director or similar management capacity.
Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
A well-rounded portfolio demonstrating a strong understanding of client or business objectives, strategies, and correlated execution.
Resides in Detroit
Bachelor's degree in art, fine art or design-related program preferred.
Experience in the consumer goods, textile, apparel, or watch industry not required, but highly preferred.
