This position as an Artificial Lift Field Operator is responsible for all aspects of managing the performance of SM Energy’s artificial lift wells including testing wells, gauging production, troubleshooting well problems, reporting/analysis tests and production through SM Energy’s production accounting system, well optimization and maintenance. Artificial Lift Field Operators are also responsible for identifying problematic scenarios and implementing preventative measures in the assigned area of responsibility. Artificial lift current and future configuration includes, but is not limited to, plunger lift systems, jet pumps, pumping units and ESP systems.
With little supervision is responsible for all aspects of artificial lift equipment and operations including optimization and maintenance that pertains to the down hole and surface equipment
Proficiently performs equipment lay downs as requested by customers and completes paperwork
Conducts field analysis and tests equipment after they have come out of the well
Collects information during testing and inspection to provide recommendations on equipment or cable status. Ability to alternate methods of completing tasks if the set method is not viable and stay within EHS guidelines.
Optimize production from wells by adjusting Pump-Off-Controller set-points, etc.
Diagnose well problems with a focus on ensuring production optimization
Direct Swab Rig for loaded up wells
Perform scheduled maintenance on artificial lift equipment
Conduct major overhaul and equipment repairs of artificial lift equipment
Troubleshoot major equipment casualties
Maintains and updates well information
Maintain concise and accurate artificial lift records including but not limited to computerized maintenance management system electronic records
Trains Lease Operators in all aspects of well optimization as it pertains to artificial lift.
Must have ability to communicate with various vendors and must have an ability to quickly adjust to changing job assignments/requirements and have the flexibility to work overtime with little or no advance notice
Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities

High School Diploma or GED required
2 to 3 years of related experience as an Artificial Lift Field Operator is preferred
3 to 5 years of related experience as a Lease Operator
2 to 3 years of related experience as an equipment repair technician
Familiar with effective maintenance, repair and overhaul programs, equipment safety programs, and equipment utilization
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Must have valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the company’s automobile insurance carrier
Is capable of handling the most complex duties without supervision
Knowledge of downhole operations, failure analysis, best practices
Comprehensive understanding and awareness of cost metrics and analysis with the ability to make strategic recommendations that have a positive financial impact
Working knowledge of facility construction practices and standards
Proficient in computer based maintenance management/ volume management programs
Proficient utilization of Microsoft Office
Demonstrated leadership in the area of Health, Environment Compliance and Safety with ability to identify issues and recommend and implement preventive measures
Must have demonstrated leadership abilities
Ability to embrace and implement the changes demanded by an exploratory program
Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
This is an active position, involving significant standing and walking, and driving
May exert up to 20 lbs occasionally, but usually negligible force is necessary
