Job Title: Asphalt Roller Operator
Reports To: Foreman
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Gillette, WY
Summary: Operates self-propelled steel-wheeled and/or rubber-tired for asphalt surfaces in the construction of highways, streets and runways. The job requirements are to distribute, break down, compact to specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain a safe working environment for all activities on project
Drives machine in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.
Provides minor equipment maintenance inspections such as greasing, checking oil, transmission fluid and water.
Determines speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures.
Pushes hand roller and pounds surfaces, using hand tamp, or guides portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least three years experience required.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.

This job has some supervisory responsibilities for support personnel around equipment.
