Assessment Specialist(AS)

The Bronx institute GEAR-UP(BI-GEAR UP) Program is a federally funded
initiative designed to provide students enrolled in Bronx Schools
with academic support, early awareness and readiness for college
study.

The BI GEAR UP Program works collaboratively with the Bronx Schools,
community based organizations, colleges, and other service providers
in the planning, promotion, and delivery of services to accelerate
academic achievement, improve student performance and ensure
successful high school graduation and admission to college.

All of the program activities target the three integral
constituencies essential to student success: the parents, teachers,
and most importantly the student themselves. The BI GEAR UP
Assessment Specialist (AS) works under the direction of the Bronx
Institute's Associate Director.

The BI GEAR UP AS is a professional resource specialist who will lead
staff, students, and parents in utilization and understanding of
relevant current and effective assessment tools and methods.

Other Duties:
The Assessment Specialist is responsible for:
  • Researching and presenting The Bronx Institute staff with
assessment tools to measure students progress

  • Designing and implementing an assessment plan that measures the
effectiveness of The Bronx Institute programs

  • Gathering and analyzing student data and generating progress
reports

  • Designing (in collaboration with the Educational Technology
Specialist) online assessment tools to be used in conjunction with
college access workshops

  • Tracking student use of assessment tools
  • Expanding the capacity of The Bronx Institute to deliver distance
learning

  • Other Duties as assigned
Salary: Based on experience

Core Competencies/Qualifications:
Competencies:
  • Knowledge about data collection, statistical evaluation of data,
strategies for conveying results to users

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current research in the field of
assessment

  • Ability to plan, organize, carry out and complete assignments
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Related experience working in educational settings
  • Detail oriented and computer literate
  • Tracking student use of assessment tools
  • Expanding the capacity of The Bronx Institute to deliver distance
learning

  • Other duties as assigned
Core Qualifications:
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years experience
working in education and an earned Master's Degree related to the
field of educational assessment.
