Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, located in Fort Pierce Florida, seeks candidates for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Research Professor with expertise in marine natural products biosynthesis to participate in our established marine natural products discovery program. This individual can also contribute significantly to the broader mission of the Institute through applications of genomics and molecular science to issues in coastal and ocean sciences. The primary focus of this position is research, but there is opportunity for teaching and directing graduate students and postdoctoral investigators within the Marine Science Program at HBOI.
Preferred candidates should have demonstrated excellence in the chemistry, biochemistry and genetics involved in biosynthesis of secondary metabolites (natural products). This individual will blend the disciplines of organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology into their investigations related to production of natural products. They will capitalize on the rapid expansion of genomics to identify, modify and express genes responsible for the biosynthesis of natural products. The successful candidate should have strong academic and research connections and be poised to take advantage of opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations at FAU-HBOI, especially related to marine natural products research.
Candidates should be willing to work with a team of other scientists and engineers in a university culture that fosters innovation and collaboration within our institute, with colleagues at FAU, and with local, national, and international partners. Candidates are expected to develop new understanding and strategies, technologies, or products that will lead to stewardship and wise use of the oceans. For more information about HBOI-FAU our strategic plan is located at http://fau.edu/hboi/pdf/StrategicPlan.pdf.
