Position: This position works under the Coordinator of Business Operations for the Department of Psychology. The department is the largest unit within the College of Arts and Sciences and offers undergraduate and graduate programs of study leading to the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, master of arts, master of science, or doctor of philosophy degrees. In addition, the department is the home of a functioning psychology clinic and numerous research labs supported by grants from a wide variety of private and governmental funding sources. The department serves over 1800 undergraduate majors, nearly 100 graduate students, roughly 30 full-time faculty members, and numerous research assistants and associates.

Typical Duties:
Forecasts, plans, and prepares budgets for all programs under the administrative umbrella of the Psychology Department. Prepares short-term and long-term projections; advises faculty and administrators on costs and benefits of different programs; and analyzes fiscal impact of decisions and reports on them to faculty and administrators.

Oversees and reconciles budgets; works with faculty and administrators on resource allocation, spending, budgetary adjustments and purchase approvals; resolves budgetary issues; works with accounting staff to produce monthly and ad hoc budget reports.

Supervises classified staff including hiring and training, assigning and evaluating work, and handling disciplinary problems and grievances; assists staff with workload and prioritization.

Manages daily operations within accounting office; establishes related office procedures; arranges and attends meetings; and other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience leading/managing/overseeing the preparation of budgets, financial statements, financial performance statistics, payrolls, internal compliance functions, and grants/contracts administration.

A minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory experience in an accounting or finance unit, preferably in a university setting.

Strong analytical ability based on a broad understanding of finance/accounting/budgeting principles; proficiency with computer applications, computerized spreadsheets, relational data bases, and automated financial systems; and a knowledge of and experience with basic descriptive statistics.

Familiarity with, understanding of, and sensitivity to academic calendars, traditions, and practices.

Requisite skills to analyze systems, processes, and procedures; and the ability to recommend constructive changes. Excellent oral and written communication skills and quantitative skills. Ability to perform a variety of complicated tasks simultaneously and to work independently in a highly visible, fast-paced, deadline-oriented office. Ability to take a leadership role in financial matters without having direct reporting relationships, and to take ownership and accountability for work products that require input from across a large organization.

Ability to handle conflict and difficult situations in a professional manner, and to achieve consensus. Discipline required to maintain absolute confidentiality and integrity, attention to detail, and accuracy in all facets of activity.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and an appreciation of a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment.

BA/BS in business, accounting, or finance and two years of experience in a related position OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications : MBA/MS in business, accounting, or finance.

III. Describe your experience with budget management/bookkeeping including managing accounts, allocating funds, and preparing a variety of financial reports. Indicate your experience maintaining accounts on computer spreadsheets and experience using automated financial information systems.

IV. This position interprets and applies numerous procedures and policies related to the financial operations of the Psychology department. Describe your experience interpreting and applying these sorts of procedures and regulations.
