Looked to as a leader in local government initiatives, Lenexa has a highly competent, well-educated and professional staff of approximately 400 located throughout ten departments and is currently accepting applications for an Assistant City Attorney. This is a highly responsible and challenging position providing legal advice and assistance on a wide variety of business and legal matters impacting the City.

QUALIFICATIONS : The position requires a juris doctorate from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in Kansas. It requires advanced legal knowledge; the ability to independently manage legal projects; counsel elected officials and management on legal matters; supervise and manage other attorneys and support staff; and research, analyze, and draft legal documents. This is not a prosecution position. Previous experience in municipal law, real estate and/or finance is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for public service and at least 3 years of legal experience, including municipal, real estate or finance work; a stable work history; excellent verbal, written and analytical skills; strong counseling and negotiating experience; supervision and management experience; and good interpersonal skills. Demonstrated competence in using PC-based applications such as Microsoft Office is required. This is a regular, full time position involving 40+ hours per week including occasional evening and/or weekend hours. Salary $57,038 – $90,062 DOQ, with excellent benefit and retirement package.
