Supervise the engineering activities of the department, which may include development plan reviews, technical assistance activities, construction and design. Review of the design of new private and public development projects to ensure compliance with master plans, City design criteria, codes of ordinances under the general direction of the City Engineer. |
This is accomplished by evaluating activities, recommending changes and adjustments to design criteria and processes, anticipation of staffing levels, working with consultants and developers, identifying needs, assist in planning, organizing, managing resources, preparing studies, reports and long range plans, and participating in special studies and projects. Work also includes assisting the City Engineer in administrative and technical responsibilities for all in-house and consultant design projects, maintaining and improving the FEMA NFIP and CRS programs, and review and preparation of traffic studies, and various engineering studies. Implementation and management of the MS4 program including review and recommendations to improve the program. Other duties include coordinating activities with departments, agencies, developers and consultants, developing and making presentations, and managing projects.
•Knowledge to perform all calculations for design, computer programs, utilizing specifications and setting standards.
•Ability to sit for a long periods of time, preparing plans and reviewing engineering plans submitted by others.
•Must be able to go to the job site to participate in surveys, field observations, and walk over construction sites for observation and collection of data.
•Must be able to work with other subordinates to accomplish the project management goal of surveying, designing, planning and specification preparation.
•Must be able to participate, foster and encourage all members of the division to work as members of a team.
•Must be able to review plans and plats in compliance with City Codes and to Subdivisions Ordinance. Communicate with owners’ engineers and forward comments to them on engineering matters.
•Must be able to attend the Planning Commission meetings.
