Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Assistant Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
Issue timely and complete financial statements
Working in conjunction with the CFO coordinate all audit activity
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and accounts receivable are collect promptly
Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
Maintain the chart of accounts
Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
Provide for a system of management cost reports
Other duties as assigned or become evident
BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent business experience and 5+ years of accounting experience
Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations
Strong analytical skills and demonstrated expertise with Excel is required.
Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development, and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data
